role

Roles define what users are allowed to do.  For example. administrators have full control over SLIMS and can delete any object they desire.  Because this power should be limited, most users will not be given the role of administrator.

SLIMS initial roles are

Administrator - administrators have full control over SLIMS, they can delete any object or protocol.  Deleting objects can mess up various results, so this must be done with caution.

User - This is the standard role used by most users.  Users cannot delete objects, although they can delete experiments and QuickLists.

While new roles can be added, they currently will have no effect.  Future revisions of SLIMS will enclude better role definitions allowing creation of specific roles such as users who can add results but not compounds or stock items.
